Town of Madawaska/St. John Valley Chamber of Commerce Announce
Madawaska Small Business BOOST PROGRAM
Helping Our Non-essential Businesses During COVID-19 Pandemic
Madawaska – On Monday, April 6th – the Madawaska Board of Selectmen approved a $10,000 appropriation from the UDAG Revolving Loan Fund to create the Madawaska Small Business Boost Program. This program’s purpose is to help those Madawaska small businesses who are most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and have been forced to close completely, or drastically reduce the amount of traffic to their establishment. The money is being appropriated to the St. John Valley Chamber of Commerce, who will be administering the program.
The Madawaska Small Business Boost Program will give people a chance to purchase $50 Gift Certificates to eligible businesses for a cost of $25. The remaining $25 will come directly from the funds being appropriated. The Chamber will issue checks to the local businesses for the full value ($50) of gift certificates sold on a timely basis. Our hope is that we get a chance to put money into these businesses now – to help them weather the storm.
Madawaska/St. David businesses, affected by the pandemic are asked to OPT IN to this program starting today, April 8,2020 until April 18,2020, by contacting the Chamber. To be eligible, the small business must be in Madawaska/St. David and be willing to accept a “generic” gift certificate issued by the Chamber of Commerce. To OPT IN, contact Sharon Boucher at the Chamber at 728-7000 or e-mail at email@example.com, with your business name and contact information.
On April 19, 2020 a list of all businesses opted in, will be made public and the gift certificate program promoted, It's a win -win for all. The customer doubles their money and the business they are helping receives needed funds. Each business will be limited to receiving 60 of these $50 gift certificates and each household will be limited to purchasing 4 certificates.
Our larger, essential businesses, though feeling the effects of this pandemic, but able to get through, may support this program and their small business neighbors by donating funds which will be added to the UDAG dollars to support and grow the program This will infuse these businesses with needed cash on hand. You may support this program by contacting Keith Cyr at the Town Office at 728-3612 or Sharon at the Chamber.
